A lot of my watercolors are embarrassingly simple. The painting, Indian Lake_5, is even beyond simple. If you didn’t know what it was, it would be hard to imagine the old tree leaning out over the lake, and anchored in a small patch of earth between the rocks. I painted it while kayaking around in the cove where I found it, so like all my paintings from the boat, it was done very quickly in an attempt to simply capture the moment as much as the scene. Looking back on these paintings (this was my 2nd watercolor) is like reading a diary, and as unrecognizable as the subject might be to someone else, they evoke a lot of good memories for me.
